Default Help me pick a new laptop

My overheating laptop is way past its time, so it's time to get a new laptop!

I'm currently considering getting a Vaio, Dell, Acer, Lenovo or HP....do you guys have any suggestions? Or any bad past experiences with these brands?

I think I've narrowed down my choices. I'm either going to get an Acer with Intel Duo Core 2 (any one of them will do), or the HP TouchSmart tx 2 Notebook which is super duper cool with its touch screen and built-in graphics tablet, but I read some not-so-good reviews about how noisy the fan is and how hot it gets. Since I'm buying a new laptop just to get rid of my overheating laptop, I'm a bit concerned. Has anyone had any experiences using this particular laptop?

Go for Compaq or Toshiba. Don't settle for anything else mate. Seriously HP, DELL and Acer have always troubled me alot.

I've had bad experiences with HP and Acer so I know where you're coming from, but I never used Dell... what problems did you have with it?

I finally got a peek at the HP TouchSmart laptop I was talking about at the shops... it's quite sturdy and small. The sales assistant would not stop rotating the images over and over again just to show off the touch screen abilities LOL!

I actually prefer the silky feel of Sony VAIO keyboards. And I'd like the screen to be a bit bigger. Still undecided.

Could you give more details on what you require exactly specification wise and I will have a look.

Nah, it's ok. I've decided to wait until all the Windows 7 laptops come out. The ones that are on the market now aren't so good, so I'll just wait it out for a couple of months.

Yeah I plan on getting a laptop in the next couple of months :P

Might go with a Windows 7 one (the one's I've seen haven't been that bad) or might just go with Vista. Not sure yet.

I don't get why people don't like Vista, it seems ok to me. But so many people are complaining about it in other forums that I've just decided to wait it out for Windows 7. I am currently on Windows XP and other than the seriously long start up time, I have no probs with it. I think the Windows 7 touch screen thing is a bit gimmicky, not sure if it's actually going to change the whole 'surfing the web' experience, but I want it mainly because I heard the start up is way, way faster.

The people on TalkFreelance have changed my mind - I've decided to go with a Macbook after all (so long, my big collection of windows CDs!) Does anyone here have a Macbook (either the white one or the Pro)? I'm curious to know how it handles games like The Sims - does it get overheated at all? And I heard the white one chips away easily - has this happened to you?
