Last week I was contacted by an agent I've dealt with in the past, who apparently wanted to put me forward for a role. I'd sent them an updated CV in PDF format.
They came back and asked if I could supply a version without my contact details (namely my email address and web site URL).
I've never been asked to do this before by anyone else. Is this common?
I think I know why. They are probably going to get commission when you get hired, so they want to avoid having the employer get in touch with you directly. It's perfectly normal in my opinion.
Yes, I guess they really hate clients contacting freelancers directly! That probably explains why Word documents are the preferred format - I started using PDFs on the advice of someone at another forum.
I actually use PDFs too. I started doing that when I realized the format I see on my computer screen doesn't show up the same on the employer's computer. I think having 2 PDF versions - one with contact details, and one without - would do
